We thought he came to wine and dine
Like everyone else to laugh and drink
We knew not we hosted the VINE
We who never stopped to think.
“We are out of wine”, the servant said
“woot! Ho! Ho!! Ho!!!” our drunken response
“‘tis thus time to serve the badly bred”
Whilst men be merry and discuss.
But He whom we showed no class
Whom we called not ‘Master’
Suffered us his timing to pass
Saved our day by word and water.
Oh that water to wine, that changed our thought
From flesh to spirit, our call thus began
For human minds fathom it not
To serve the best at end is not of man.
Ah! They thought he saved our feast
Alas! He saved us, even our marriage;
The strength to try and try and nay desist
Our daily cry, our pristine charge.
Let every man who drinks this wine
Let every soul that receives this offering
Let every couple remember this line
‘Better is the end of a thing than the beginning’.
